A victory story with our colleague Hanin Areed

“Desperation» is a word that does not exist in the dictionary of all those who love life, because life means the contrary
- challenge and hope. Each one has his own story of suffering, but suffering from a disease is the hardest of them all.
Faith and the great desire to enjoy life are the keys to overcome your sorrow.
In the below lines we are telling you the story of Hanin Areed; a story of healing and loving life – a victory against
cancer.
Q: When did you discover the disease and how?
Signs started to appear in February 2016, I visited a number of doctors but they failed to correctly diagnose my
sickness or identify what was wrong. Symptoms started to get even worse and I entered the Islamic Hospital in April
2016. After conducting tests and X-rays, they confirmed that a tumor in Lymph Nodes was there.
Q: Tell us about your reaction the moment you knew the news?
I can’t tell how much pressure and worry I endured before and until they confirmed I had cancer. I tried as much as
possible to overcome my fears and get fully convinced with one fact – I have no control on what’s going on; it’s all in
God’s hands. I started the journey of treatment at the King Hussein Cancer Center, filled with hope and strength to
accept this battle.
Q: How did your family, friends and colleagues support you?
Everyone was standing by my side during the journey of battle. They supported me emotionally and made all what it
took to ease what I was going through and to lessen as much as possible the great burden I was holding. I will never
forget how my colleagues were dealing with the whole thing as nothing happened; I was able to do my job normally
and smoothly.
Q: What is the most difficult part of this period?
The fatigue and nausea I endured after each Chemotherapy session.
Q: Now that the disease has totally gone, thank God, tell us about Hanin after the full recovery?
Today, my faith in God became deeper, and I learnt to accept what God chose for me. I now believe more in myself,
and in my capability to endure whatever is coming my way. I know for a fact now that suffering does not last, and the
best is yet to come.
Q: A piece of advice from you to patients and non-patients?
Cancer does not mean death; we are much stronger than this disease as long as we are equipped with faith, hope and
desire to live.
As for non-patients, I pray to God to keep them healthy. It is of high importance to conduct periodic checkups for
early detection of this disease.
